Prior to its anticipated debut this year, the next sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz AMG E-Class coupe has been spotted once more.
Despite the fact that this observed E-Class prototype could resemble prior spied specimens, our spies were able to get a first-look shot of a brand-new LED light strip. The design feature, which spans the top of the grille, was previously exclusive to Mercedes-Benz‘s EQ line of electric vehicles (EVs).
Along with an industry-wide design trend, Volkswagen has also introduced something similar to several of its vehicles. This front LED strip’s availability as a standard or optional feature for the E-Class lineup is still unknown. Online leaks have previously shown the front end of the Mercedes-Benz AMG E-Class coupe car sans camouflage, however with tape masking the light strip’s location.
The W211-generation twin-headlight design and the MBUX infotainment system’s landscape-oriented touchscreen were two further design features that were disclosed in these leaked photographs. In the trio of rear-wheel drive, combustion engined sedans from Mercedes-Benz, the E-Class is the middle child. Following the local launches of the new S-Class in 2021 and the C-Class in 2022, the new generation will come out in 2023.
All two-door C-Class and E-Class vehicles will be replaced by a new coupe and convertible model line, potentially known as the CLE, which will succeed the coupe and convertible. A waggon has already been spotted and is expected to continue, at least in other markets. When Mercedes-Benz stopped selling the high-riding All-Terrain in 2021, the body style was dropped locally, and the company no longer offers waggons.
Expect a variety of 48V mild- and plug-in-hybrid powertrains, but no electric vehicle; the EQE fills that void in the Mercedes lineup. It’s unclear if the E-Class will adopt the smaller C-Class’s policy of only having four-cylinder engines in both the base and AMG trim levels.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is currently available with a choice of three turbocharged four-cylinder engines, one of which is paired with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, moving up to the AMG range gives you access to the E53’s turbocharged inline-six and the E63’s twin-turbo V8. The BMW 5 Series, the E-Class’s primary competition, is likewise ready to transition into a new generation. Before their anticipated arrival in 2023, prototypes of the new 5 Series have been spotted testing.
