Burnley are now set for an immediate return to the Premier League following their spectacular 2-1 win against Middlesbrough that secured promotion. Kompany’s side eased to victory and saw out the game comfortably, prompting wild celebrations from Clarets players and fans alike.

As an enthusiastic Burnley supporter, seeing them achieve their goal was truly special for me – especially seeing their players celebrate like children!

1. Kompany’s goal

As Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title began to fade away, captain Vincent Kompany delivered one of his career’s defining moments. Picking up the ball 30 yards from goal, he advanced a few paces before unleashing an absolute rocket past Kasper Schmeichel and into the top corner.

Company’s strike was one of the highlights of the season and filled the Etihad with exuberant joy. Unfortunately, it also marked his last game at Manchester United.

His teammates begged him not to shoot, yet Kompany took another touch and unleashed a goal that secured City’s title before the final day at Brighton. Having already scored 20 times this season for City, the Blues now had the momentum in their favor heading into the final day at Brighton.

Kompany, out of contract this summer and yet to agree a new deal, was overcome with emotion during his lap of honour after the game. He revealed that his children had no idea he had scored such an important goal in the title race.

2. Kompany’s celebration

Kompany joined some of his teammates at Hale Wine Bar in Ancoats for a celebratory dinner after Manchester City’s emphatic 6-0 win at Watford on Saturday secured an emphatic Treble – this latest in a series of events designed by Kompany to mark his career with Manchester City.

Players were seen celebrating like children as they sang their club’s anthem and were serenaded by fans. Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Fabian Delph all took to social media sharing photos from this unforgettable event.

Kompany has clearly taken Manchester City and their fans to heart. He married Carla Higgs, an avid supporter of blues football. Their children also admire Kompany’s footballing abilities.

Kompany has proven himself an outstanding professional while making the most of his role as City captain, always taking responsibility for his team’s success and leading by example in class and respectability. He will be greatly missed when departing to become player-manager for Anderlecht FC next season.

3. Kompany’s team-mates

Kompany quickly earned his Manchester City teammates’ admiration with small gestures like celebrating his 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday with such relish, it felt as if they were celebrating their inaugural game of the season.

Not often do Manchester City players embrace fans, so when Carla Kompany was sitting next to her husband on an airchair celebrating, she was delighted.

There were tears and laughter, as well as moments of comfort from young players such as Shay Given. She told Kompany she thought he was an exceptional player.

According to Hughes, that was all it took for Kompany to join City from Hamburg in 2009. Hughes believes it all played into their deal which eventually resulted in him joining City in 2009.

After years of hard work and taking to his key principles of togetherness and hard work, 36-year-old Burnley manager Sean Dyche is finally at the top of English football’s second tier – taking his team all the way. Even with two league defeats this season they’ve remained one of the most consistent sides in the Championship division.

4. Kompany’s manager

Manchester City fans were very fond of Kompany, who led them to 10 major trophies in 360 appearances as their captain. Even after suffering several debilitating calf injuries during his time at City, Kompany was still loved and appreciated.

At that moment, he could be seen on camera taking a moment to celebrate with several children which no doubt warmed the hearts of Manchester City supporters. He was treated like a hero at Etihad Stadium with many City fans cheering as Burnley won promotion from Championship.

Belgian midfielder Jan Vertongen would never have imagined such an achievement so quickly in only his first season at Turf Moor – let alone just seven games later – yet here he was, revelling in every second. Now with seven matches remaining to secure Premier League survival it was evident he was enjoying every minute.
