Still, they can serve as a cool wall mount or a trophy from a successful hunt. Their interesting design can also be fun to sit down and learn how to draw a deer skull.

The unique design of these skulls can also make it a challenge, but this guide is here to help!

Our step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a deer skull will show you how to recreate this awesome-looking skull in no time.

How to Draw A Deer Skull

Step 1

In this first step of our guide to drawing a deer skull, we’ll start with the skull itself. You can start with two black shapes that are slightly angled and have some lines that extend inside the skull.

Then you can draw the mouth of the skull. This extends from some rounded lines to some cheekbones.

The mouth part of the skull is long and thin, and you can draw two rounded shapes for the nostrils near the end of the mouth part that connect.

Finally, draw the top of the skull and use two rounded lines for the base of the horns we’ll draw soon.

Step 2

This image would only be complete with some antlers, so let’s start drawing the first one in this part of your deer skull drawing.

Now we’re going to draw the horn on the right side, and you can start with some slightly jagged lines going out from the rounded line you drew for the base of the horn.

It extends to a pointed ledge and then curves further to a larger ledge.

Next, we will add a lot of line detail to the horn to give it some texture. Finally, add some line detail throughout the skull for this step to add texture.

Step 3

The horn still needs to be finished, so in this step of our how-to draw a deer skull guide, we will finish it.

The horn rolls back on itself and extends inward toward the viewer.

To draw this section, we’ll add four more prongs to the horn, each extending inward toward the skull. You can complete this new four-pointed section with more details about the line before moving to Step 4.

Step 4

The next few steps of drawing your deer skull will repeat what you did in the previous 2 steps of the guide when you drew the second horn.

The second horn will be a mirror image of the first, and the more symmetrical you can make it, the better.

This second horn will have the same two-pronged protrusions as the first, and we’ll aim to make them the same size and proportion.

We’ll leave a similar gap on the side as we did with the first horn, as this is where we’ll add the final prongs and some finishing touches in the next step.

Step 5

Just like you did with the first horn, we’ll finish the second one with four more prongs in this step of our guide to drawing a deer skull.

This means moving those tines inward on the horn and finishing with some line detail throughout the horn.

Once you’ve completed that second horn, you’re ready for the final step! You can also add your details and finishing touches before proceeding.

There are many ideas you could try to add your touch to this design. One idea would be to draw a wooden plaque behind the skull to make it look like a trophy.

You can also search for a picture of a whole deer skeleton and draw another skeleton connected to the skull.

Step 6

Now it’s time to finish your deer skull drawing with some paint! In our reference image, we chose some realistic, muted brown tones for the horns and light gray and beige tones for the skull.

You can replicate this color scheme for a more realistic look, but you could also get creative to give the drawing a more stylistic look.

No matter what colors you choose, you can vary the shades and tones depending on the artistic means and tools you use to create them.

You can opt for some acrylic paints and crayons for lighter, more vibrant tones or watercolors and crayons for more muted colors. These are just a few suggestions, but feel free to use as many colors and media as you like!
